Dear Blogger

Please give me my Asoka - Urumi post back unless you want to hear some serious whining and hysterics.

Many anticipated thanks!

PS: Think carefully, I have a well armed friend who is willing to fight you if you don't comply!

  1. Dolce, I once accidentaly deleted a blog post but could recover it because it was cached on google. Try it http://www.bloggertipsandtricks.com/2009/08/recover-accidentally-deleted-post-how.html

  2. Thanks Remini, but it's not because I deleted it, Blogger deleted everything that was posted after a certain time on Wednesday, and they said they were working on restoring it but it hasn't happened yet. Even if I find the cached copies, I won't get the comments back which would be very disappointing. Sigh... Will give it until after the weekend and hopefully I'll wake up on Monday to find everything where I left it. There's hope still because they haven't said they're done just yet...

Fingers crossed it comes back, I wanted to read it. :-)

  4. :( I know... I didn't mean for this to be a whiny post, meant it to be funny more than anything else, but I'm sad too! Thanks for the encouragement. And keep your fingers crossed for me :)

  5. I noticed that on a number of blogs hosted on Blogspot, all the posts from the previous two or three days had disappeared, so I knew it was their fault. Bummer about the comments, though. I hope you get your post back, at least.

  6. I sure hope I get the comments back too, mm, otherwise how will we continue to lock horns over Santosh Sivan and his films? ;)

  7. I was kind of hoping the fates were helping me to focus on my work and not get distracted with blogs. :)

  11. @ mm - then it was *you* who jinxed it! Very subtle, very subtle :) Hope it all worked out well for you on Sunday btw!

@ Nicki - you're safe, they went back to the last version saved on Wednesday evening, so you had already posted yours :)

@ Hari - that cracked me up! Thank you for the encouragement, good to know I can count on you to recreate the magic of that comment :D

@ Katherine - let's hope Blogger doesn't get the last laugh though! :-X

  12. Thanks, my event went well (on Saturday). But now I'm trying to get a major project done in two weeks. Still, I plead not guilty to jinxing you! :)

BTW, serious question, is it possible to do your own backup of your blog posts & comments, to guard against this type of thing? I'm evaluating different blog hosts, so this is not an idle inquiry.

  13. Oooops, Saturday! See, having the original comment there rather than my memory to rely on would have come in handy. :)

There is a way to back everything up on Blogger (do I detect a new blog in the womb?? Make sure to shamelessly advertise when it comes to life! :)). I haven't tried it yet, but apparently if you go to Settings -> Basic -> Export, you can back up the whole thing. I don't have the link handy but try googling "backup blogger" and you should find instructions. I will have to start doing that.

  14. Thanks for the info, Dolce. I'll check it out. And yes, you have outed my hitherto buried intention -- I am indeed thinking of starting a blog. It has been gestating for a while, and I think I'm finally ready to take the plunge. :)
